Wayne Hemingway's ‘One Minute To Leave Your Mark’ video on The Blank Sheet Project looks at the power of creativity and collaboration.
For Wayne Hemingway (MBE), designers have a responsibility to improve things that matter and to create profitable, affordable and sustainable things that make people happy.
His key to successful creative activism is “not always to go it on your own.” Collaboration is key: “With a powerful team around you – manufacturers, retailers, sales people and even a bank manager to share your vision – that is very powerful indeed.”
Together with his wife Geraldine, Wayne started acclaimed fashion label Red or Dead. After 21 seasons on the catwalk, they sold Red or Dead and set up HemingwayDesign, which specialises in affordable and social building design projects.
About One Minute to Leave Your Mark
The One Minute videos are short inspirations from The Blank Sheet Project explore the theme of creative excellence and delve into creative processes, creative activism and sustainability. The inspiration platform from Arjowiggins Creative Papers continues in collaboration with D&AD.
Among those who have contributed One Minute videos to The Blank Sheet Project so far are: illustrator and animator Mr Bingo; film producer Lord David Puttnam; RSA creative director Nat Hunter; Samuel Payne, strategist at Mother; copywriter Tony Brignull; fashion designer Jean Pierre Braganza; Dan Germain, head of creative at Innocent; designer Michael Wolff; creative strategist of Facebook, Ji Lee, and Steve Vranakis, creative director of Google Creative Labs. There are more to come.
This second phase of The Blank Sheet Project builds on the testimonies of international creative legends Neville Brody, Sir John Hegarty, Renzo Rosso and Rutger Hauer and continues to show the special place that paper has in the creative process.
