Brief: Matalan commissioned CK to design a Store of the Future, which would raise consumer perceptions of the brand, whilst retaining the inherent value proposition.
Response: Defining a simple set of principles that could deliver a more engaging experience, the new concept creates impact from the outset. The entrance area has been magnified with an over-sized red archway projecting from the building, which contains dramatic, double-height windows. Inside, a ‘fashion streetscape’, offers defined destinations with diagonal pathways breaking up departments. The paths include the inspiration catwalk feature, which uses a series of fixtures, each displaying mannequins, progressively increasing in height towards destination points at the back of the store.
