Located in the old textile quarter of Manchester, Umbro’s ‘Creative Centre’ relaunches the brand in the city of its birth. Th e vibrant multi-purpose space combines a design studio for product and graphic designers, spaces to launch and sell-in new ranges and the ‘Football Th rift Store’ - a nontraditional store which will open to the public, selling vintage products, design samples and football ephemera. Th e creative centre also includes the ‘GuildSpace’ which is a collaborative area where workshops can take place with experts giving something back to the local community; training up new talent and helping energise the space from a really strong core.
Response: As a transition between these rooms we created a tunnel, a metaphor for the tunnel which takes players onto the football pitch, here it acts as a link between the designer, business and public areas of the space. With a big screen at one end, football genealogy chalked graffi ti style on the walls and Astroturf underfoot, it provides the perfect catwalk to show off the latest designs. The centre is a true reflection of the brand’s heritage and conveys the spirit of Umbro today
