Host venue for The Ryder Cup in 2010, the five-star Celtic Manor Resort uses Mirri metallic board and embossing to create a stunning brochure cover
Host venue for The Ryder Cup in 2010, the five-star Celtic Manor Resort is set in more than 2,000 acres of panoramic parkland at the gateway to Wales. With two hotels – a 330-room luxury Resort Hotel and an historic 19th century Manor House with 70 rooms the Celtic Manor Resort provides a complete experience for business, leisure and golf travellers.
Celtic Manor’s previous Christmas brochure for 2012 was printed on a Mirri Holographic Rainbow material that was masked out in certain areas using white ink to create an eye-catching and awe inspiring image of a Christmas tree and lights. Because of the success of last year’s Christmas brochure, Senior Graphic Designer at The Celtic Manor Resort, Paul Bailey, again looked at using Mirri with the addition of a 3 dimensional emboss to create yet another spectacular cover for the Christmas 2013 brochure.
Paul Bailey commented: “We came up with the idea of utilising the film ‘It's a Wonderful Life’ and using the famous lasso scene and applying it to The Celtic Manor Resort imagery. Silhouetting the hotel and having Santa lasso the moon as he flies past worked well in designs and with close help and advice from Mark Warwick, Key Account Manager at Mirri, we choose a silver Mirri as the base substrate.”
Using a white ink, Paul subtly masked out some areas to create contrast within the reflection where needed and fully opaqued parts of the moon. Several digital print proofs were made to perfect the masking and the ability to receive digital proofs using white inks and on the correct substrate was instrumental in getting the job finished flawlessly.
10,000 brochures were printed in total and once printed, they were delivered to Celloglas, the UK’s leading decorative print finisher and the manufacturers of Mirri, for the 3-dimensional embossing process. After completion the image of the moon became textured to look like the craters, which catches the light as you move the brochure. Once finished the Mirri cover was delivered to Cardiff Print to pair the cover with the printed body and was finished with perfect binding.
Jennifer Deacon, Marketing Manager for Mirri and Celloglas, added: “Mirri is an amazing substrate that has allowed The Celtic Manor Resort to create some spectacular brochures – especially for the festive season. The imagery used for this year’s brochure is something completely different, and the material and emboss have added that extra something that has made it come to life.”
